Lake Howell Pep Rally

Lake Howell High School pep rallies aren’t like your average high schools. At Lake Howell, we have so much spirit that at every pep rally, each class participates in a competition to see who can show the most spirit, because when it comes to spirit, no other school can even come close! The class of 2019, which totals just under 600 students, is Lake Howell’s prestigious senior class, the largest one this year. This class comes to the pep rallies and games, and especially the football games, with so much enthusiasm and excitement. The class of 2020 is catching up, though–being the second largest class, they have big shoes to fill, especially when you consider that last year, the class of 2019, who were juniors at the time, won the spirit stick for the year. The spirit stick is a trophy handed to the class with the most spirit during the pep rallies.

The last pep rally Lake Howell had was a close call, but of course, that didn’t stop the class of 2019 from taking the spirit stick home. Each class gets their turn at the pep rally to try to prove that they have the most school spirit, and every pep rally begins with the freshmen and ends with the seniors for maximum hype. It’s tradition to “boo” the freshmen when they’re introduced, and at the latest pep rally, the juniors and seniors nearly had more “boos” to yell for the freshmen than they had spirit for their own class! On that Friday, there was a text sent out that stated the school’s principal, Mr. Kotkin, was going to give the spirit stick to the juniors, which caused quite a stir and made the pep rally much more thrilling for the underclassmen. When the pep rally began, Kotkin walked into the pep rally with a class of 2020 shirt. This almost made the seniors certain that they weren’t getting the spirit stick, but of course, the class of 2019 never gives up. In fact, the class of 2019 ended up winning the spirit stick because the commitment they showed to their class couldn’t be compared to any other.

Keep up the good work, class of 2019, and better luck next year to the class of 2020.

“The Nun” Movie Review

Over the past weekend, I watched “The Nun,” a new movie that just released in the movie theaters September 6th. “The Nun” is a horror movie that ties in to the popular horror movie “The Conjuring;” it explains the story of “The Conjuring” and gives out answers towards the end that had been left unanswered at the end of “The Conjuring.”

“The Nun” is about an investigation within an abbey, a building occupied by a community of nuns, where a nun killed herself; the events begin when a priest, along with a nun, appear on the scene to find out what is going on. Little do they know, however, that there are many secrets they are going to discover. The movie opens with a young nun running for her life before she sacrifices her life in her abbey. A local man named Frenchie, who lives in the village, comes across the dead body, and the word soon gets out. A priest, Father Burke, is contacted by a church, and he goes with several other priests to investigate the scene. They are accompanied by Frenchie and a young nun named Irene, who has not completed her final vows. Frenchie, who found the body, leads both Father Burke and Sister Irene to the abbey. When they arrive, they immediately begin to feel weird vibes about the abbey and what is going on in it. The abbey is old, run down, and completely empty, with darkness all over–the perfect setting for a horror movie. The first person they come across looks suspicious and is covered head to toe in a black cloak, and she then assigns them where to stay and sleep. The first day they arrive, weird things begin to happen, and that is only the beginning.

The movie itself succeeding in scaring me to the point where I needed to cover one of my eyes and squint to look back at the screen. Overall, it was a good scare; however, I found it a bit odd due to some of the scenes. I would recommend this movie to people who love a good scare, especially the kind that pops out of nowhere, and people who love suspenseful movies. I would rate this movie a 6/10 compared to other horror films that I have watched.

Zodiac: Libra Season

September 23rd marks the beginning of the lovely Libra season. If you didn’t know, Libra is the 7th sign falling on the zodiac, after Virgo and before Scorpio. “Libra season” refers to the end of September and beginning of October.

Libras are balanced, fair, and social signs. They’re ruled by Venus, the planet of love. Libras often avoid conflicts, violence, and drama. Venus was the Roman goddess of love, which explains why Libras are so great in relationships. It also makes it clear to see that Libras are lovers, not fighters. Because we are currently under the influence of Libra, we have entered the 7th house of relationships, and it’s a great time to rekindle old sparks you wish to make flames again.

Libras have a strong sense of right and wrong because they can see almost every side of every situation, though they are indecisive. They are all about pleasing others, but do not do as much for themselves. They’re easily influenced by other people, making them easy targets for manipulation, but they do know how to stand up for themselves. Libras are one of the best signs to be around due to their ability to make anything fun, their drive to do what they please, their charismatic attitudes, and their seeming inability to be boring.

All zodiac signs have their element, and Libra’s is air. Other air signs include Gemini and Aquarius. Air signs are seen as people who are able to understand abstract reasoning; they’re great at analyzing and understanding others’ opinions without judgement. These signs are also about communication. They’re great at getting the word out, which drives both their perception and curiosity. They can be as swift as a summer breeze or can come at you like the winds of a hurricane, it depends how you catch them.

Some famous Libras: Kim Kardashian, Bruno Mars, Matt Damon, Will Smith, and Ryan Reynolds.
